Children grow and develop quickly during the first years of their lives. As a parent, you are the most important person in your child’s life. You notice when your child smiles for the first time, rolls over, sits, walks and begins to talk. These moments mean that your child is learning!
Use the information on these pages to help you recognize the developmental stages your child is going through. If you have concerns about your child’s development, talk with your health care provider.
Use your public library as a resource to learn more about the stages of your child’s development. Visit your local library to find out about programs they offer to support early learning and school readiness. Many libraries have story-time programs for young children, activities for school-age children, and special summer reading programs for all ages.
If you have concerns about your child’s development, you can get a free developmental screening. To find out who to contact call the Family Health Hotline at 1-800-322-2588. You do not need a referral from your doctor to get a free developmental screening.
