What if my child has all the skills in the questionnaire?
The skills he learns will become more complex as he gets older. Complete questionnaires every 4-6 months to make sure he stays on track.
What if some skills are missing?
A screening tool checks to see if a child has the basic skills for their age. If some skills are missing, they might need extra practice, or maybe some help from an expert. Our child development specialist can discuss all the options with you when they call.
I’m worried my child is falling behind.
Always trust your gut. Getting a free, in-person evaluation is a perfect next step. A professional interacts with the child and uses more detailed tools. If needed, they can help you arrange services like speech therapy. You do not need a doctor’s referral to access this free, public service.
There are lots of ways to help him or her catch up. Focusing on those skills during your everyday interactions can make a big difference. Interested in play groups, parenting classes or activities? Call the Help Me Grow Washington Hotline (1-800-322-2588) or search online here.
